A new decade has begun, and with it, High Five! Comics will soon be unveiling our special “20 (Or So) Best Comics of the Decade” event (take THAT, Siege). But before we reveal the big list, we’ll start with a series of supplementary entries from HF!C’s contributing writers about those comics we each individually loved, [...]

When I was a small child, my favorite book was Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. I loved this book for the pictures. I didn’t especially relate to a wild-child having a tantrum and being sent to his room. I did not own a wolf suit. I had certainly never been across a [...]

Even as a good guy, Max Damage is a dick – and that’s what makes Incorruptible awesome. The long-awaited (at least by us ) follow up to Mark Waid’s Irredeemable – which features the Plutonian, a Superman-esque hero, going very, very bad - Incorruptible is the story of a villain going straight. Mild spoilers ahead, folks. [...]

We all have that one family member who manages to do the one thing that totally annoys you. The cousin who got evicted and needs to live on your couch “for a while.” The teenager who takes the car out for a joyride and gets in “a small accident, no big deal.” The brother who [...]

Here’s how Boom!’s NOLA #1 opens: Black girl walks up to two white cops at a police barricade in post-Katrina New Orleans. I guess we’re getting right to it, aren’t we? Here’s a little something most people don’t realize about the South; most kids my age (I’m 25) can just barely remember a time when [...]

We’ve all had dickhead bosses, but how do you deal when your dickhead boss happens to be a superhero? Jimmy Lohman (yes he’s a redhead) desperately wants to be an intrepid TV news reporter. Unfortunately, the only job he can land is Assistant to washed-up reporter Grant Godfried, who just happens to moonlight as the [...]

Here at High Five! Comics, we’re known supporters, readers, and sometime stalkers of Mark Waid and the crew at BOOM! Studios. We appreciate anyone with an “!” in their name, Waid is a great talent, and frankly, almost every title these guys are putting out right now is great. BOOM! is debuting two new titles [...]

Licensed titles have traditionally sucked. They’re usually put out as big money grabs with crappy stories and half assed art. Notsomuch anymore. Dark Horse is built on well-executed licensed titles, and BOOM! has followed their, lead – though with much lighter fare. Jurassic Park – Rob: A lot of people say that this franchise should [...]

BOOM! Studios is doing an amazing job getting comics into the lollipop-stickied hands of kids again. They’ve got licenses to the Pixar pantheon, the Muppets, and the classic Disney characters. I skipped Mickey & Friends (my kid brother’s only two years old, I’ll read the TPB to him in a year or so), but I’m [...]

Fangirl moment! This made me giggle. Thanks Waid/Krause!
