You are spot on in your views on the South. I too am 25 and hail from Northern Alabama. I still remember the shock (outrage?) my parents and friends’ parents tried to hide when the first black kids came to our little county jr. high. The students realized something was wrong, but all we thought was “Hey, new friends.” It was an odd situation, to say the least. Of course, we had no high schools in the county, so I had to go to the city high school, where it was segregate or fall by the wayside. I had no problem with it, but the feelings of those parents came with me in the back of my mind. That said, I’ll definitely be picking this up, as it seems like something I could relate to.
